Print Settings
Print settings define the watermark that is stamped on a document when it is viewed, printed or downloaded. There is one configuration per watermark type, and the stamp is applied to the file as it is served β never stored on the document itself.
Because the watermark is applied on the way out, changing a print setting immediately affects every subsequent view and print of every document. No republication is needed.
Watermark typesβ
| Type | Applied when |
|---|---|
| Controlled copy | A controlled copy is printed against a controlled-copy task. |
| Uncontrolled copy | A document is viewed, downloaded or printed as a working copy. |
The typical use is to make an uncontrolled print visibly unusable as evidence β a large diagonal "UNCONTROLLED COPY" across the page β while a controlled copy carries its copy number and status.
Fieldsβ
-
Text
The watermark text itself. -
Font size
The size of the watermark text. -
Font colour
The colour of the watermark, as an RGB value. -
Angle
The rotation of the watermark on the page. A diagonal watermark is normally set between 30 and 45 degrees. -
Position type / position value
Where the watermark is anchored on the page. -
Opacity
How transparent the watermark is. Low opacity keeps the document readable; high opacity makes the watermark harder to remove visually.
How the watermark is appliedβ
Watermarks are stamped on the document's PDF rendition. Every published document is converted to PDF once at publication precisely so that the watermark pipeline has a single, predictable format to work with β this avoids the rendering quirks that appear when stamping Word or Excel files directly.
Print settings are seeded and updated, not created or deleted. You configure the existing watermark types; you cannot add a new watermark type or remove one.
The watermark text is used literally. {{Token}} placeholders are not substituted here, unlike in document content β write the exact text you want readers to see.
Authorization and Access Controlβ
Print settings are a module-level configuration screen. Editing them is normally restricted to quality administrators, since a change affects every document in the system at once.
